Why Should You Use AWS DMS Services for Database Migration

AWS DMS services (Amazon Web Service Database Migration Service) are extensively used by organizations to migrate databases from on-premises servers to the cloud or from one cloud provider to another. The services are also highly optimized for the migration of NoSQL databases, relational databases, and data warehouses.

Users can either continually move data from the source to the target databases including all changes being made at the source through the Change Data Capture feature or prefer one-time migration. To go through the first process both databases should always be in sync.

Now coming to the question – why should you use AWS DMS services for database migration? There are several cutting-edge benefits and reasons for doing so.

First, migration with AWS DMS services is fast, seamless, and error-free. This is because not only is the migration process fully automated but the software also manages, tracks, and deploys, all the necessary infrastructure for migration after it is configured to do so. This is against the traditional migration activity of the past where additional drivers and applications had to be installed before the process could be started, thereby making it a lengthy and tedious affair.

Second, by migrating to the cloud with AWS DMS services, users get access to fully-managed services of AWS such as Amazon Aurora or Amazon Relational Database Service as databases are now moved to more technologically advanced and affordable platforms. Further, access is available to low-cost data repositories like Amazon S3, or data warehouses managed by Amazon Redshift and NoSQL platforms like Amazon DynamoDB.

Finally, AWS DMS services incorporate stringent data security norms of the cloud after database migration.
